Jane Lapotaire - Taken by Sheila Burnett
This photo of Jane Lapotaire, reminds me of the days of analogue and the soul that print film had. I am an instinctively traditional photographer who works with tungsten and natural light, never flash. Analogue trained me to have the instinct to judge by available light but the pleasure to view as you shoot, unthinkable with analogue, makes the digital photographic experience an ongoing joy.
I combine old school technology with the vibrancy, speed and flexibility of new school digital technology, which I embrace without a backward glance.
Where shot: Maida Vale home studio
When shot: 1990
How shot: Natural light from a south-facing window, filled in with one tungsten light, a mirror behind to give a feeling of depth.
What camera: Canon EOS 5, 35mm
