Michael Carlo photographed by Alishia Love.

How did you get into shooting headshots specifically?
Almost by accident! I was training at drama school myself when my housemates needed their
headshots taking. I picked up my camera and took my first ever headshots with them. Before I knew
it, I had photographed a large handful of their year group and that set the ball rolling.

Where do you shoot?
I have a wonderful little tunnel in London where shooting at opposite ends, different angles, or even
just down at the floor gives me plenty of versatility and can transform the images from having an
outdoor appearance to a studio-like feel with tonnes of gorgeous natural light.

How would you define your style?

I like to keep things natural. It’s all about the energy behind the eyes for me and I like to work from
an actor’s perspective to achieve this. In the edit, hopefully the images look like ‘you but on a really
good day!’

Tell us what you like most about your job?
Meeting all sorts of people and having a good giggle with them whilst at work!

And tell us what you like the least?
Rain.

Who is your photography hero?
I’m thrilled to be part of the APHP as most of the photographers I still look up to now are part of it.
To be respected alongside them leaves me very chuffed.

What track is most likely to be playing in your studio, or on you iPod?
Whatever you like! I do requests!

Jaffa Cake or Digestive?
Digestive.

Wine or Beer?
Gin?

Cats or Dogs?
Dogs! Some lovely specimens passing by on location. Get ready to ‘awh!’

How would you like to be remembered?
The one that made your agent happy. The guy that helped get you that first job. He made me
pretend I was in a boy/girl band.
