This is Hugh Stubbins as photographed by Chris Mann.
I’ve shot Hugh a few times and I always enjoy it. He’s a top bloke and a great actor. Hugh talks a lot, so for me this is one accurate representation of the man in the room. Some would argue it’s not a headshot; they’re wrong.
Interesting, accurate representations are almost always at the top of my hit list for headshots as that will give a casting director some idea of what will turn up. The moment chosen in this shot is charged, giving the shot energy and the appearance of life/movement. The collar helps with this too as it isn’t stiff, his mouth is open just enough to let us know he’s about to speak and isn’t dead, but not so much it distorts the natural features of his face. Both subject and photographer are working in the same direction, hunting for a moment that stands out.
